Active Environment
Active Environments
This was a new area objective and area of work for 2021/22 and its purpose was to create sustainable places and spaces with partners that make it easier for people to be active.
Our first area of focus was around community places (facilities, pitches, and parks) and this was through us assisting both North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire Councils in the production of their revised facility strategies. 2022/23 will focus on their implementation.
We also supported all our Local Authority partners in their applications to and the roll out from the National Leisure Recovery fund.
The second area of focus was around the wider bult environment (streets, housing, estates). This involved working with British Cycling and their plans for across the Humber. We worked with planners in each of the 4 local authorities on various developments as well as supporting two bids around social prescribing and active travel in Hull and North East Lincolnshire.
Climate change
2021/22 saw Active Humber play a significant role across the Active Partnerships network around climate change. We have spent considerable time establishing our position across the Humber and the Active Partnerships Network as a thought leader on climate change and being physically active and we continue to lead the Network on this issue with the CEO the chair of the national steering group. This work has been around prioritising community of learning sessions, thought leadership workshops, peer mentoring, engagement / advocacy with national partners.
Active Humber was the community sponsor for the Marketing Humber 2021 Waterline summit on climate change which ran concurrently with COP26, and the Waterline summit had a specific sport session.
We have also begun to implement our sustainability policy and organisational climate neutral plan. We also updated our vision and mission to reflect our role in climate change and added an additional objective to our company articles. (5) Creating and helping to protect the places and spaces that make it easier for people to be active through the achievement of environmental and sustainability goals
